substantial

she had not stars
but galaxies
in her eyes

and her mouth
(when it wasn’t spilling
poetry and dirty words)
was pure electricity

she never painted
inside the lines
because she was too busy
sketching the masterpiece
that was her life

she lived by one rule—
love.

and while she may have been
a lot to handle
you will learn that she is
everything
to lose

beautiful from a distance

there was something about her
the way she seemed to have
too much spirit
to hold inside one body
she spoke in poetry
to a world that would never understand her
and loved
in ways most could not comprehend
her bones were made of pure passion
and her hair was stitched of stars
there was too much life in her
to be contained by mere flesh
and in her eyes there was a fire
though beautiful from a distance
when you got up close
you were sure it would consume you

if you would have let me

i would have loved you
in your darkest hours
when you couldn’t even
look in the mirror
i would have loved you
in the quiet moments
after all the words
had already been spoken
i would have loved you
through your restlessness
and indecision
if you would have let me
i would have loved you
enough for the both of us
but, baby, don’t fear
because i will love you
in another life
when the timing is right
