stargazing

with the night air filling my lungs
i stare up at the
beautiful unfathomable
in numbers i cannot count
and distances i cannot comprehend

doesn’t this make you feel small?
i ask

in the darkness
your hand finds mine
and for a moment
we have a silent conversation
of inhales

and exhales

as your fingers curl around mine
i turn and find you
gazing not at the sky

but at me

and in your eyes
i see stars
that make the scene above me
look like a mere reflection
in a puddle of water

with no breath left in me
i somehow mutter an

oh

because at this moment
i feel

infinite
